Description: Ignatianum University in Cracow is a Catholic university with state rights run by the Southern Polish Province of the Society of Jesus. The origins of the Krakow teaching and research center run by the Jesuits date back to the late 19th century. With the recognition of this entity by the state authorities in 1989, the Philosophical Faculty of the Society of Jesus was able to inaugurate the education of the laity. Over the next ten years, the center developed and opened more faculties, through which it was transformed in 1999 into the Higher School of Philosophy and Pedagogy "Ignatianum" in Cracow. The university is authorized to confer doctoral and postdoctoral degrees in six disciplines, contained in three fields of science: in the humanities, in social sciences and in family sciences. The university currently has more than 3,000 students, 81.7 percent of whom are women, and 1.6 percent are foreigners. 680 graduates left the university building last year. In the 2023/2024 academic year, 1,362 male and female students began their studies, including 29 foreigners. The university employs 235 academic staff, 56.6 percent of whom are women.
