SGTiH Vistula was established as a result of the merger of three tourism colleges: The Mieczyslaw Orlowicz University of Tourism and Recreation in Warsaw, the Warsaw-based University of Hotel Management, Catering and Tourism, and the University of Tourism and Hotel Management from Lodz. They are also joined by the Institute of Tourism, the only research and development unit in Poland conducting interdisciplinary, comprehensive research in tourism.

It educates in the fields of Tourism and Recreation, Tourism and Hotel Management, and Dietetics. It cooperates with more than 40 foreign universities in the exchange of lecturers and students, joint programs and projects, research, exchange of experience and publications.

The university currently has 866 students, 58 percent of whom are women and 68 percent are foreigners.   

269 graduates left the university building last year. In the 2023/2024 academic year, 313 male and female students began their studies, including 193 foreigners.

The university employs 16 full-time academic staff, 69 percent of whom are women.
