The Academy is one of the oldest non-public universities operating in Poland. It was established in 1992 under the name Wyższa Szkoła Ubezpieczeń i Bankowości.

AFiB Vistula in Warsaw and its affiliate, the A. Gieysztor Academy in Pultusk, offer a total of 17 bachelor's, master's and engineering degree programs, as well as postgraduate and doctoral studies. All majors in Warsaw are also taught in English, in full-time and part-time modes, some online. It cooperates with more than 40 foreign universities in the exchange of lecturers and students, joint programs and projects, research, exchange of experience and publications.

The university currently has more than 10,800 students, 44.8 percent of whom are women, and 57 percent are foreigners.   

More than 1.8 thousand graduates left the university building last year. In the 2023/2024 academic year, more than 3.8 male and female students began their studies, including 2,155 foreigners.

The university employs 130 full-time academic staff, 46 percent of whom are women.
