Description:

The tradition of the Warsaw University of Technology dates back to the early 19th century. The date of the establishment of technical education in Warsaw is considered to be 1826, when the Preparatory School for technical studies was opened. The initiator of the school and author of the curriculum was Stanislaw Staszic, a versatile scholar and education activist, who was active in the Commission of Religious Denominations and Public Enlightenment. Unfortunately, after only a few years of operation, the school was closed in 1831, as part of the repression following the outbreak of the November Uprising. It was not until the last years of the 19th century that Tsar Nicholas II yielded to the suggestion of the Polish public to donate the collected sum of one million rubles - along with his approval - for the construction of a Polytechnic Institute named after him in Warsaw.

Warsaw Polytechnic is based on two pillars: teaching and research.

Warsaw University of Technology is considered the largest technical university in the country. It has 19 faculties and a College of Economic and Social Sciences in Plock. It has a kindergarten and cooperates with many schools. It offers dozens of bachelor's and associate's degrees and second degrees (also in English) and scientific career development at the Doctoral School, postgraduate studies and the University of the Third Age.

Research processes take place mainly in laboratories, workshops and studios.

The polytechnic has more than 20,000 students, 31 percent of whom are women, and 7.9 percent are foreigners.

More than 4.9 thousand graduates left the university building last year. In the 2023/2024 academic year, more than 6.6 thousand male and female students began their studies, including 503 foreigners.

The university employs 2145 full-time academic staff, of which nearly 30 percent are women.
