The university was established in 1899 by the decision of Kaiser Wilhelm II, and opened in 1904 as - the Royal Technical University of Gdansk.
Gdansk University of Technology is one of the oldest autonomous state universities in Poland and the oldest polytechnic on the present territory of the Republic. The university consists of 8 faculties, where you can study 40 majors. It offers engineering and master's degree programs implemented on a full-time and part-time basis. There are 98 scientific circles and student organizations at the university.
The polytechnic has more than 14,000 students, 38 percent of whom are women, and 6.5 percent are foreigners, who come from more than 60 countries.
Almost 3,200 graduates left the university building last year. In the 2023/2024 academic year, more than 5.1 thousand male and female students began their studies, including 224 foreigners.
The university employs 1144 full-time academic staff, of which nearly 37 percent are women.
Prominent figures who have been educated within the university's walls include Jan Ryszard Kurylczyk - writer, politician, Rudi Schuberth - singer and satirist.
