Description: The Silesian University of Technology is the oldest technical university in Upper Silesia and one of the largest in the country. It was established in 1945 as a scientific and didactic base for the most industrialized district in Poland and at the same time one of the more industrialized areas in Europe - Upper Silesia. It is an important institution of public life and plays a special cultural and opinion-forming role in the region.
In 15 units - 13 faculties, 2 institutes of the Silesian University of Technology - there are currently more than 60 courses of study and about 200 specialties, covering the entire range of engineering activities. In addition to technical studies at the university, one can also study business analytics, interior design, mathematics, sociology, management, project management, applied linguistics and pre-school and early childhood pedagogy.
The polytechnic has nearly 15,500 students, 31 percent of whom are women, and 3.8 percent are foreigners.
More than 4,400 graduates left the university building last year. In the 2023/2024 academic year, nearly 5.7 thousand male and female students began their studies, including 213 foreigners.
The university employs 1,597 full-time academic staff, 35 percent of whom are women.
Among the graduates of the Silesian University of Technology are Jerzy Buzek - member of the Sejm of the third term, prime minister of the Polish government from 1997 to 2001, former member of the European Parliament and its president.
