The decree establishing the Technical University of Lodz was signed on May 24, 1945.At the beginning, the faculties of Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical and the Textile Department were established. 525 students were enrolled in the first year, and 458 students continued their studies in the higher years. The university had 33 departments with 33 professors, 15 assistant professors and 53 assistants.
At present, the education of students takes place in 9 departments, 65 majors and about 120 specialties. The university also offers doctoral studies, numerous postgraduate studies, including MBA type, and specialized courses. No other university in Poland has such a long experience in education in foreign languages or such a diverse offer. Since 1993, the Center for International Education (IFE) has offered study programs conducted entirely in English and French. Students have the opportunity to earn dual diplomas: Lodz University of Technology and one of its partner universities, e.g.: French, Turkish, Danish, Dutch or English.
The polytechnic has more than 10,000 students, 37.7 percent of whom are women, and 4 percent are foreigners.
Almost 2.5 thousand graduates left the university building last year. In the 2023/2024 academic year, nearly 3.3 thousand male and female students began their studies, including 147 foreigners.
The university employs 1,080 full-time academic staff, almost 40 percent of whom are women.
