Poznan University of Technology under its current name has been in operation since 1955, with its beginnings in 1919, when the one-faculty State Machine Building College was established. Ten years later, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering was established, which resulted in the change of the university's name to Państwowa Wyższa Szkoła Budowy Maszyn i Elektrotechniki. Initially, studies lasted three years.
Poznan University of Technology is one of Poland's leading technical universities. It educates at 9 faculties, 34 faculties, in undergraduate, engineering, master's, postgraduate and doctoral studies.
More than 14,000 students are educated at the polytechnic, 30.5 percent of whom are women, and 5.5 percent are foreigners.
More than 4 thousand graduates left the university building last year. In the 2023/2024 academic year, nearly 5 thousand male and female students began their studies, including 280 foreigners.
The university employs 1,301 full-time academic staff, of which more than 34 percent are women.
Prominent figures who have studied within the university's walls include Aleksander Doba, a kayaker and traveler; Jerzy Wisniewski, an entrepreneur and founder of the PBG group and Rafako, Poland's largest energy construction group; Waldemar Witkowski, a politician.
