In 1951, an independent university, the Higher School of Agriculture, was separated from the University and the Technical University of Wroclaw, which has functioned as the Agricultural University since 1972, and as the Wroclaw University of Life Sciences since November 23, 2006. It is one of the largest universities in Wroclaw.

At present, the university offers the opportunity to study 30 courses of study of the first (bachelor's or engineering) and second degree (supplementary master's) and uniform master's degrees conducted within six faculties. Wroclaw University of Life Sciences is authorized to conduct third-degree studies (UPWr Doctoral School), as well as to conduct postgraduate studies.

The university currently has nearly 6,500 students, 66.1 percent of whom are women, and 5.3 percent are foreigners.

More than 1.7 thousand graduates left the university building last year. In the 2023/2024 academic year, more than 2.2 thousand male and female students began their studies, including 91 foreigners.

The university employs 683 full-time academic staff, almost 55.6 percent of whom are women.

Wroclaw University of Life Sciences graduated, among others, Hanna Gucwinska - a zootechnician.
