Description: On May 25, 1925, the state authorities established the university, which was named the Higher School of Economics (WSH). The first ceremonial inauguration of the academic year was held on October 1, 1925. This moment is considered the beginning of today's Cracow University of Economics. The university offered three-year and, in time, four-year studies in several fields of study. The lecturers were mostly professors of the Jagiellonian University and the Academy of Mining (today's AGH). On September 1, 1938, the Higher School of Commerce was counted among academic schools, receiving the name Academy of Commerce. Today, the academy offers not only full-time studies, but also part-time, first-cycle (bachelor's, engineering), second-cycle (master's), unified master's (majoring in law), doctoral school education, as well as postgraduate and MBA studies. Recruitment is carried out in more than 30 majors enriched by a wide range of specialties. The university currently has nearly 8,900 students, 60 percent of whom are women, and 6.2 percent are foreigners. 3,500 graduates left the university building last year. In the 2023/2024 academic year, more than 7.4 thousand male and female students began their studies, including 506 foreigners. The university employs 726 full-time academic staff, more than 50 percent of whom are women. Prominent figures who have been educated within the university's walls include: Rafał Brzoska - CEO of InPost, Tadeusz Ferenc - president of Rzeszów since 2002, MP for the fourth term of the Sejm, Adam Góral - president of Asseco Poland, Prof. Jerzy Hausner - Minister of Labor and Social Policy in 2001-2003, Minister of Economy, Labor and Social Policy in 2003-2004, Minister of Economy and Labor and Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers in 2003-2004, since 2010. member of the Monetary Policy Council, Roman Kluska - founder of Optimus, Dr. Aleksander Miszalski - President of the City of Krakow, Dariusz Orłowski - President of the Management Board of Wawel, Sobiesław Zasada - sportsman, businessman, founder of the Zasada Group, Rafał Ziobro - first Pole and ninth man in the world to swim across the Strait of Magellan, first Pole to swim across the Strait of Gibraltar.
