Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce was established in 2011 in Kielce. Originally, from 1969 as the Higher School of Teaching. In subsequent years it underwent numerous transformations, gaining the rank of an adjectival university in 2008 and a classical university in 2011. Jan Kochanowski has been the university's patron since 1979.

The university provides education in 58 fields of study and nearly 150 specialties in almost all scientific fields, including humanities, social sciences, medical and health sciences, sciences and natural sciences, arts.

It provides education in 10 doctoral programs, with nearly 300 doctoral students currently enrolled.

The university currently has more than 9,200 students, 70 percent of whom are women, and 3.5 percent are foreigners.

Last year, 2,662 graduates left the university building. In the 2023/2024 academic year, 3872 male and female students began their studies, including 103 foreigners.

The university employs 800 academics, 56.5 percent of whom are women.

The university's graduates include: Piotr Slawinski - historian, poet, teacher, Andrzej Golda - screenwriter and journalist, Andrzej Piaseczny, also known as Piasek - singer, songwriter and TV personality, Wieslaw Pyzalski - musician, multi-instrumentalist, popularizer of music, or Krzysztof Klicki - entrepreneur, creator and president of Kolporter.
