Description: Looking for the beginnings of the Jędrzej Śniadecki Academy of Physical Education and Sport in Gdańsk, one should go back to 1952. At that time, the Technical School of Physical Education was established, and shortly afterwards, in 1957, the accompanying Teachers' College of Physical Education. However, it was not until the status of the Higher School of Physical Education was obtained by virtue of the Ministerial Decree of August 6, 1969, that new possibilities opened up for the institution to operate as not only a teaching, but also a research unit. In 1973, the WSWF took the name of a prominent Enlightenment philosopher - Jędrzej Śniadecki, who remains the patron of the School to this day. Students currently have a choice of 30 specializations in 12 majors. The University has 5 outdoor fields, 12 sports halls 2 sports halls and 1 swimming pool. The university currently has nearly 2,500 students, 52 percent of whom are women, and 5.2 percent are foreigners. 523 graduates left the university building last year. In the 2023/2024 academic year, 1,297 male and female students began their studies, including 87 foreigners. The academy employs 147 full-time academics, almost 50 percent of whom are women. The academy's graduates include Sylwia Gruchała - fencing, Henryk Rozmiarek - handball, Paweł Baraszkiewicz - canoeing, Przemysław Miarczyński - sailing, Aneta Szczepańska - judo, Adam Korol - rowing.
