Description: The establishment of the Krakow AWF is linked to the Jagiellonian University's 2-year Scientific Course for Candidates for Teachers of Gymnastics in Secondary Schools and Teachers' Seminaries, established in 1893. The course was run not far from the Jagiellonian University's Faculty of Medicine. It was transformed in 1913 into a 2-year Study of Physical Education, which, in addition to training teachers, organized lectures and practical exercises for all university students. It was the first such institution of university PE teacher training in Poland. Education currently takes place within three faculties in 14 fields of study. Since 1988, the university has also conducted doctoral studies and since 2020 there has been a Doctoral School. The university currently has nearly 3,600 students, 62 percent of whom are women, and 1.6 percent are foreigners. The university building last year saw 1012 graduates leave. In the 2023/2024 academic year, 1,614 male and female students began their studies, including 32 foreigners. The academy employs 268 full-time academic staff, 56 percent of whom are women. The academy's graduates include Agnieszka Radwańska - tennis player, Maciej Sikoński - MMA fighter, karateka and kick boxer, and Stefan Hula - ski jumper.
