Description:

It is the oldest sports university in Poland. The process of educating personnel in physical education began in 1919 at the Piast University (later known as the University of Poznan) in the Department of School Hygiene and Theory of Physical Education, which was transformed into the Study of Physical Education in 1924, and after World War II into the Higher School of Physical Education and the Academy of Physical Education (1973).

The university educates in eight majors: Physical Education, Sports, Tourism and Recreation, Physiotherapy, Dietetics, Dance in Physical Culture, Animation of People 50+ and Neurobiology.

Located in the center of Poznań, the AWF campus offers comprehensive, modern teaching and sports facilities.

The university currently has more than 2,500 students, 56 percent of whom are women, and 1.3 percent are foreigners.

607 graduates left the university building last year. In the 2023/2024 academic year, 1,068 male and female students began their studies, including 16 foreigners. 

The academy employs 199 full-time academic staff, 57 percent of whom are women. 

The academies graduates include: Zdobysław Stawczyk and Eugeniusz Wachowski academic world championship medalists in athletics, and Olympic gold medalists in athletics: Bronislaw Malinowski, Wladyslaw Komara, Tadeusz Slusarski, Wladyslaw Kozakiewicz, wrestlers Andrzej Wroński, Ryszard Wolny, Wlodzimierz Zawadzki or rowers Tomasz Kucharski and Michal Jeliński.
