Description:

The history of the Medical University continues the 18th century tradition of practicing medicine and caring for public health in Bialystok. At that time there was a palace school of midwives, later transformed into one of the few in the country, the Institute of Acupuncture, founded by Dr. Jacob Michelis in the early 19th century. A clinic operated at the institute, fulfilling both therapeutic and teaching functions. The university was officially established in 1950 as Poland's tenth Academy of Medicine.
Today, the Medical University of Bialystok is a forerunner and leader in conducting work on artificial intelligence in medicine and contributing to its development of large-scale research involving genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, radiomics and bioinformatics.
There are currently more than 5,900 students studying in 16 medical faculties, including nearly 500 in English. Foreign students come from Norway, Sweden, the US, Canada, Germany, Spain, Saudi Arabia, among others. There are more than 230 doctoral students in the Doctoral School and doctoral programs.
