The Medical University of Lodz began its activities on January 1, 1950. Currently, the Medical University of Lodz is one of the largest medical universities in Poland.
It has an attractive and varied - taking into account EU requirements, the needs of the national medical market and the preferences of potential candidates - didactic offer at all levels of education: single master's, first and second degree, doctoral and postgraduate studies.
It educates its own academic staff and conducts scientific research, development work, and provides research services. The strategic areas of research activity of the Medical University of Lodz mainly concern civilization diseases, including: cardiology, oncology, diabetology, metabolic diseases, physiotherapy.
The university currently has more than nearly 9,300 students, 70 percent of whom are women, and 8.4 percent are foreigners.
More than 2 thousand graduates left the university building last year. In the 2023/2024 academic year, more than 2,500 male and female students began their studies, including 151 foreigners.
The university employs 1173 full-time academic staff, 62 percent of whom are women.
Medical University of Lodz graduates include Marek Edelman - one of the leaders of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, a physician.
