Description: Today, the Maritime University of Technology in Szczecin continues the tradition of maritime education, whose origins date back to 1947, when the one-faculty State Maritime School in Szczecin was established. In the first years of its operation, it underwent various organizational transformations, after which, in 1962, during the dynamic development of the deep-sea fleet and fishing enterprises in Poland, it resumed its activities as the State School of Marine Fisheries. In 1963, another school was established - it was the State Maritime School, which trained officers for the merchant fleet. The organizational structures of both schools had the characteristics of a university. In 1967, the two schools were merged and the post-secondary State Maritime School was then established, which a short while later - in 1968 - was transformed into the Higher Maritime School with two faculties: Navigation and Mechanical Engineering. The task of the Maritime University of Technology is to educate officers - navigators, mechanics and electro-technicians in accordance with modern standards and requirements of the world fleet, as well as qualified personnel of the IT, surveying and TSL (transport-forwarding-logistics) sectors - with particular emphasis on the maritime industry. The university currently has nearly 2,700 students, 22.6 percent of whom are women, and 18.4 percent are foreigners. 410 graduates left the university building last year. In the 2023/2024 academic year, 925 male and female students began their studies, including 180 foreigners. The university employs 241 academic teachers, 36 percent of whom are women.
