
METHODOLOGY - PERSPEKTYWY RANKING BY SUBJECT 2024
The Perspektywy Ranking by Subject 2024 covers the most popular fields of study in Polish universities. Ranking evaluates 74 fields of study in nine areas: humanities, social science, economics, science, natural science, technology, medicine, and health, as well as agriculture, forestry and veterinary sciences.
Note: Unit conducting a field of study must have a right to confer doctoral degrees. The evaluated fields of study in the ranking must be conducted on a full-time basis - in uniform master's studies or in second-cycle studies providing students with the possibility to continue their education after completing the first-cycle studies at the same university. Emergency Medicine is an exception.
Ranking 2024 is based on 12 - 13 indicators grouped into six criteria. There are different weights of individual criteria - depending on the character of the field of study.
REPUTATION
- Academic reputation – a number of indications based on the survey conducted among academic staff (full professors as well as PhDs with habilitation, who have obtained their academic titles in the years 2019- 2023. The survey takes also into account votes cast in the previous year. It was completed by Perspektywy Education Foundation in the CAWI method and institutions were split into three groups (academic universities, private universities and state higher vocational schools). EMPLOYABILITY
- Alumni earnings - CHANGE IN METHODOLOGY: the indicator reflects the alumni earnings of a given university in 2018-2021 to average earnings in the county of residence according to the nationwide study of the "Polish Graduate Tracking System" (ELA) by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education based on the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) data (note: due to the change in the method of determining the indicator value, the current ranking edition includes the average of the indicator values measured in accordance with the new and previous methods, which took into account alumni earnings in the first year after graduation). - Alumni employment - CHANGE IN METHODOLOGY: indicator reflects the average length of employment of graduates of a given university in 2018-2021- according to the nationwide study the "Polish Graduate Tracking System" (ELA) by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education based on the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) data. The data refer to unemployment rates in the counties of residence of graduates (note: due to a change in the method of determining the indicator value, the current edition of the ranking includes the average of the indicator values measured in accordance with the new and previous methods, which took into account the employment of graduates in the first year after graduation). - Scientific category – evaluated for the leading discipline for a given field of study, taking into account the evaluation of university. Source: POL-on
TEACHING
- Accreditations - measured by the number of accreditations and international certificates, valid accreditations with a distinction granted by 2018 by the Polish Accreditation Committee (PKA) for a given field of study and Education Certificates of Excellence (granted currently by PKA). - Quality accepted for studies - indicator measured by the results of secondary school-certifications of the first year students who were admitted to university units and started studies in October 1, 2023. The indicator shows the quality of university itself (as the choice of the most talented candidates) and creates this quality as the best students affect the level of the academic process. - Publications - measured by the ratio of the number of publications in the SCOPUS database covering years 2019-2023 in relations to the leading discipline for a given field of study. Source: SciVal.
- Citations - measured by the number of citations in 2019-2023, in relation to the number of the cited publications. Self-citations are not considered. Source: SciVal.
- FWCI (Fields-Weighted Citation Impact) - measured by the ratio of citations of the publication to the average number of citations obtained by similar publications indexed in the SCOPUS database for the years 2019-2023; in relation to the leading discipline for a given field of study. - FWVI (Fields-Weighted View Impact) – indicator measured by the ratio of pageviews of the publications on a website to the average pageviews of similar publications indexed in SCOPUS database in 2019-2023; in relation to the leading discipline for a given field of study. - Top 10 (Publications in Top 10 Journal Percentiles) - it indicates the extent to which the university's publications are currently in the 10% of the most frequently cited journals in the world. The ratio of publications in journals with the highest CiteScore coefficient in relation to all university publications in 2019-2023 is counted; in relation to the leading discipline for a given field of study. INTERNATIONALIZATION
- Publications in international cooperation – the share of publications co-authored internationally, in the years 2019-2023, among all publications. Source: SciVal.
- International students - the percentage of foreigners among the total number of students at the faculty as of 31.12.2023 (note: universities that have an internationalization rate of at least 25 percent will receive the maximum number of points). Source: POL-on database.
ADDITIONAL CRITERIA
- Medical examinations - additional indicator for the fields of medicine and dentistry; it is based on the results of the State Medical Examination. The effectiveness of the exam is also taken into account. Source: LEK database.
